Course Summary:
The Fall Protection and Retrieval Devices course introduces students to principles of fall protection and retrieval devices and provides hands-on training with related equipment. The training includes the following topics:

Legal requirements and basis for the training
Principles of fall protection, slips, trips, stair falls, elevated falls
Basic hazards based on the requirements in OSHA 1926, Subpart M and in OSHA 1910.66 Appendix C
Equipment inspection of ladders, safety nets, guardrails, walking/working surfaces
Hands-on practical area exercises involving ladder inspection and set-up
Basic Hazard Recognition

Target Audience:
This course is intended for personnel who will be protected mainly by passive fall protection systems such as temporary work platforms, catch platforms, guardrail systems, safety net systems, etc., and who need to be able to recognize walking/working surface hazards such as structural deterioration, slipping hazards, tripping hazards, stairway hazards, and ladder safety including inspection, use, and storage. This should be taken by those who will take 020146 since it provides the basics that will be the foundation to be expanded upon in 020146.

Course Prerequisites:
It is recommended that this course be taken prior to course 020146.

Course Evaluation:
Practical Area Exercises and a quiz will be used to measure student mastery of the training objectives.

4 hours

4 times each quarter and upon request
